Waikiki is located in Honolulu, on the south shore of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i. Waikiki means" fetched water" in Hawaiian for the springs that once fed wetlands separating Waikiki from the main lands. Waikiki extends from the Ala Wai Canal on the west and north, all the way to Diamond Head on the east. Waikiki was once a retreat for Hawaiian royalty in the 1800s, and retains much of its relaxation qualities til this day.
These days, Waikiki is very much considered the hub of Hawaiian tourism, much like Ipanema beach in Rio de Janeiro, Wakiki Beach is perhaps the most well know of all the beaches in Hawaii. You will find an abundance of resorts and hotels built along the coast line.
