Difficult Moves on MolokaiMolokai reflects old Hawaii more than any other accessible island. The north coast is often cited as Hawaii’s most dramatic. There is a lot of history to view like the Alii Fish Pond, cool throw back excursions like the Molokai Mule rides to Kalaupapa, and raw beauty found in places like the Halawa Valley. With recent announcements, all this will be more difficult to explore. For many years now, Budget and Dollar Rent A Car have had small locations at the Hoolehua Molokai Airport. As the economy began to fall dramatically in the fall of 2008, both Budget and Dollar have struggled mightily to reduce operational expenses in the light of greatly reduced levels of travel to Molokai. Sadly, it wasn’t enough. Both Budget and Dollar will be closing their doors by the end of May 2009. Here’s how the closing process will work:
Moving forward, Alamo has won a bid to establish a new rental location on Molokai at the airport. Location and final plans for fleet have not been established yet. They plan on opening the location sometime in June.
